COMPOSITIONS / ORCHESTRAL / CONCERTO NO. 2 “FOUR DANCES” (2014-2015)

Concerto No. 2 “Four Dances” (2014-2015)

for clarinet, optional choir and small orchestra

FOUR DANCES (2014-2015) is inspired by four dance types: Pavane, Reel, Zeibekiko and Horo. Pavane is a slow processional dance used to carry couples to the front of the court room to present themselves to the queen. The Reel is a folk dance type that originates from Scotland. Zeibekiko is a Greek folk dance, similar to Turkish Zeybek dance. Due to the movements of the dancer, it is sometimes known as the “eagle dance”. And finally, Horo is a type of circle dance traditionally performed in Southeast Europe. This lively and joyful dance is a staple at Jewish weddings and is a symbol of celebration and unity.
