Effugium (2024)

for soprano, mezzo, percussion, mixed chorus and wind ensemble

Effugium is a requiem based on texts by Jean-Paul Sartre’s Huis Clos and the liturgical Dies Irae. The piece was performed by chamber choir Ad Parnassum and The Brabant Chamber Orchestra, featuring Elisabeth Hetherington, Lotte Betts-Dean and Konstantyn Napolov as the soloists, portraying the characters of Inez, Estelle and Garcin from the play by Sartre. The premiere took place at the Abbey of Koningshoeven in Moergestel. Subsequently there were performances at November Music Festival, and at the Orgelpark, where Veronika Achmetchina stepped in for Elisabeth Hetherington.
